It’s not often that I stray from my beloved liquid matte lipsticks, but when the opportunity arose to check out a selection of the Maybelline Color Sensational line, I was intrigued.
One thing that immediately stuck out to me was the packaging of the lipsticks. I loved the corresponding color of the cap and how the cap finish seemed to match the lipstick finish (ie it made it so easy for me to pick out the ones I was looking for in my vanity in the early morning pre-coffee).
From top to bottom: Born With It, Warm Me Up, Toasted Truffle, Rich Ruby, Berry Bossy, and Midnight Blue.
I was really impressed with the staying power. I could usually get a few hours of wear in before reapplying and when I did, it layered nicely – none of that pilling that can happen with overly dry formulas. It also wore off pretty evenly. Even though it did transfer to my coffee cup, it didn’t bleed outside of my lip line.
Ombre lips may be in, but I haven’t quite mastered the technique and still prefer a close match between my lipstick and liner. So I loved that there were so many colors to chose from in the new Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liners.
From top to bottom: Clear, Nude Whisper, Dusty Rose, Magnetic Mauve, Purely Nude, Totally Toffee, Rich Chocolate, Rich Wine, Plum Passion, Wild Violets, Palest Pink, Pink Coral, Very Cherry, and Brick Red.
The liners applied incredibly evenly. The formula was just creamy enough to apply smoothly, but dry enough that it would create a nice base for lipstick. Extra bonus that they’re twist up and the bottom cap pops out to use as a sharpener once the tip loses its point.
They would also be easy to wear on their own. Post swatching I did the tried and true smudge test with great results. Not a lot moved until I hit them with the makeup remover.
I really liked pairing the Nude Whisper color with a clear gloss for a daytime look.
My absolute favorite pairing was the Brick Red liner with the Rich Ruby lipstick. It’s just the right amount of pigment without being too overly blue or orange toned. With nudes it can be hard to find one that will work on everyone, but I think this red seems to be pretty universally flattering.
Have you tried any of the colors from this line yet? What did you think?
