I think this is the first actual curated box that I’ve chosen from Birchbox. I always really like watching the unveiling of the different curated boxes or the sample choices each month when they arrive in my inbox, but this was the first month where there wasn’t really a sample choice that really stood out to me. Plus the Mad Men NY version of the curated choices had a really pretty box that went with it.
I’ve really been getting into eyebrows lately. I’ve been trying out pencils, pomades, gels, tinted mascaras, pretty much if it’s not a powder brow product, I want it. And we all know how Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow is my absolute HG when it comes to brow territory. However, my feelings towards the Clear Brow Gel is not nearly as generous. While the Clear Gel kept everything in place, my brows aren’t really unruly, so I don’t exactly need anything to keep them from moving around. All it really did was make them feel super duper crispy, and dried them out.
I feel pretty negative going from one disappointing product to another, but I was not that fond of the Whish Shave Cream Shaving Gel in Blueberry either. It did smell pretty, but I feel like it completely dried out my skin and caused my razor to drag. Basically the exact opposite of what the bottle says it does. Honestly it felt like I was shaving with deodorant or something.
Now if anything could redeem this box, it’s the Cargo Swimmables Water Resistant Blush in Los Cabos. The color is absolutely gorgeous, applies like a dream, and has great blendability. I haven’t tried it swimming yet, nor has it been particularly hot out to where I’ve been sweating, but I’m still impressed with it for the week or so I’ve been wearing it. Plus the little tin container is pretty cute. I am probably going to get the full size of this soon and keep this one in my gym bag.
The Beauty Protector Protect & Oil worked pretty well. It had a good scent, absorbed well without looking greasy. If I applied it at night to the ends of my hair after using dry shampoo at the roots, I had really really great third day hair when I’d wake up. However, I’m not sure if it’s worth what it costs for the full size. It was a great little product, but I feel like there are other hair oils that have pretty similar results for a better price point. Maybe I’ll feel differently at the end of this bottle and I switch to something else, but for now, I’m not ordering the big bottle.
I think it’s the witchhazel in it, but I did not find the Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion particularly soothing. It stung a little bit, though I do have pretty sensitive eyes. It does a good job of getting the rest of whatever lingering eyeliner is left over from my PM cleansing routine, but so does the Sephora makeup remover…
All in all, there was one amazing item that I loved: the Cargo Swimmables Water Resistant Blush (found here). One product that worked well, but not sure if it works well enough to justify the price: the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil (found here). Then three items I was less than impressed with: the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel (found here), the Whish Shave Cream (found here), and the Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion (found here).
