This is only my second box from BeautyDNA, but it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. There are so many products currently available (with more launching every day), that claim so many things, frankly it’s obscenely overwhelming. Then you find a product that works, but a chemical in this product won’t work well or will completely nullify the benefits of another product you use. Which is why I not only love the mix of brands that BeautyDNA works with (well-known and more niche), but also how in-depth their beauty profile of you is.
The questionnaire you take when you sign up is much longer than that of Ipsy, or Birchbox, but it is much more tailored to your preferences. Not only do you direct what kinds of products you get, you direct what kind of ingredients you’re open to trying. For instance, the card included in this month’s box boldly noted that the product they sent was “paraben-free, plus, it has a lavender fragrance without any trace of chocolate or musk scent.” And that “this product contains argan oil, lavender and vitamin E, but not mushroom.” So when I read that the company spent over two years developing their algorithm to discover the right products for an individual beauty profile, I believe it.
It’s also proven to be a great value so far. For $25 a month with free shipping, you get a full sized product to try out. Last month I got Jurlique’s Herbal Reccovery Night Cream, which retails for $51 at Sephora. This month I got the Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Treatment, which retails for $36.
Now to the product review. My favorite thing about the hydrating treatment was the smell. The lavender scent was amazing and is super relaxing. I honestly spent more time smelling the bottle than I did applying the actual oil. It’s a little thicker in consistency than most oils I’ve used, but it also spreads really easily and a little goes a long way. I’m usually able to cover a whole leg with about a quarter size amount. That being said, it does not absorb quickly. I like applying body lotions/oils right after I get out of the shower to lock all of the moisture in. However, if you’re trying to get out the door quickly, it will make your pants harder to put on and you’ll get that I’m-stuck-to-the-fabric feeling for a while. After a morning or two of this, I started using it at night after dry-brushing. This worked WAYYYYY better. The scent was also really relaxing which helped put me in the right mindset to get some zzzz’s on.
While I love using this before bed, I don’t really like it as much as my Holy-Grail status sweet-almond oil I’ve been using lately. The sweet-almond oil, while a little more runny, absorbs much more quickly and is cheaper.
Tl:Dr; Love love love BeautyDNA. Extremely well thought out subscription box. I like the MoroccanOil Intense Hydrating Treatment, it smells amazing and is worth using for a beauty ritual, but not sure it’ll get put in the repurchase category.
