Here I am wondering how late is considered fashionably late with monthly favorites posts. Anyway, I have 6 beauty favorites for August, and 1 non-beauty favorite.
I have two of the L’Oréal Colour Riche Extraordinaire lip colors, Coral Encore and Ruby Opera. At first I was struck by how nice the packaging was, it actually reminded me a lot of the YSL lipsticks, which doesn’t surprise me because they’re under the same company umbrella. It also smells really nice, which I wasn’t expecting… Definitely a plus that it doesn’t have that plasticy smell that some glosses have. Speaking of glosses, I am usually not a fan because I ALWAYS get my hair stuck to my lips when I wear them. Not so much with this, I mean it did happen, but not nearly as much as normal. The applicator was a little weird to get used to, but it’s really soft and after a bit makes it easier to apply when you don’t have a mirror. The formula is also very moisturizing and pigmented, and I find myself reaching for it even more than my beloved lip balms lately.
The Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk from Klorane. I won’t go too into this since I went pretty in-depth about it when I reviewed the one sent in my August Ipsy Bag (click here to read). Bottom line, this applys like a dream, smells great, isn’t itchy, and has reached Holy Grail status.
I do not use sunscreen as much as I should. I’m an avid reader of other beauty blogs, and I really do know better, but I only seem to wear sunscreen on my face when it’s already in the formula of whatever product I’ve put on. Or if I’m out sunbathing (another thing that is bad for my skin – eek). This is mostly because it seems like all face sunscreens leave my skin super oily and break me out. This includes the non-oil sensitive formulas too. I seriously end up looking like something out of a horror movie. Or a vain teenager’s nightmare. Either way, it is not pretty. By default this makes Benefit’s Dream Screen my Holy Grail product. I know, two Holy Grail products in a row… but it absorbs so nicely, isn’t oily in the slightest, and doesn’t make me look like I’ve rubbed poison oak all over my face. It’s also SPF 45, and in shocking news, the last time I went on holiday I had zero sunburns. I repeat, I HAD ZERO SUNBURNS. Pardon my yelling, but seeing as I without fail end up with a burnt little nose whenever I go someplace with sunshine, it’s a pretty monumental feat. The finish dries rather matte and is smooth enough to use as a primer/makeup base. Love love love.
With all the hype that surrounded the launch of Benefit’s They’re Real! Push-Up liner, I was skeptical about it even though I ordered it as soon as I could. A lot of other beauty bloggers I read seem to either love it, or absolutely hate it. I fall into the love it bunch. I have always been complete rubbish at doing a cat eye, well not anymore. The “accuflex” tip is AMAZING. Though I did come to the realization that I have oily lids, but if I put down some lid primer before drawing it on, the formula does not budge at all. My only real complaint about it, is that there is almost a delay with when the click-up part gets turned and when the gel actually pops up. It seems like every time I open the cap there’s an accumulation of product from when I used it last. I don’t like using the ‘left-overs’ because it ends up flaking, so I just wipe off the extra on a tissue and start over. It seems like a waste, but I really love the overall application enough that it is not a deal-breaker. Plus the staying power is so amazing, I’ve had to go on the hunt for a better makeup remover… Anyone have any recommendations they love?
In my revelation of The Body Shop’s offering of makeup, I discovered their Baked To Last Blush. I talked about it a little bit in this post, and after using it for a bit longer, I use this even more than my bronzer and highlighter. Though it looks pretty shimmery in the case, it’s not overly so once you put it on, and it just leaves this nice pinky glow that isn’t too over the top.
When I want to pamper myself, my go to move is usually a face mask and a good book. The mask repairs my skin, and the book repairs my soul. Lately, I‘ve been using Skyn Iceland’s Fresh Start Mask about once a week. It’s a dual phase mask, where you slather on a blue clay from the step 1 packet, and then slather on the contents from the step 2 packet, a AHA fruit acid gel. When you blend these together they produce this great tingling reaction. 10 minutes later, my skin looks brighter, feels really soft, and seems so much more moisturized!
And for my non-beauty favorite, Triangl’s Indy Bikini in New York Noir. This had been up my lust list all summer and when it finally came in the mail, I was ecstatic. It’s made out of neoprene – so essentially the same material wetsuits are made out of. And I’m just going to say it, they make my butt look good. Like no other swimsuit I own even compares, so this would have made my favorites just from that.
When I ordered these I based the sizes on what I order from Victoria’s Secret swimwear. Small bottoms, medium top. Bottoms fit perfectly, but busty girls, you’ll want to order a size up on the tops. The medium top definitely runs small. Next one of these I order, I’m getting the top in the next size up. However, despite it not covering as much as I’d hoped, it was surprisingly supportive! And didn’t move around on me that much! It also comes with a cute little drawstring bag made out of the same material that makes a great beach bag/tote.
