I definitely am much more a child of summer than I am one for embracing the cold Fall and Winter months. Even though I don’t have to worry about it getting too cold now, the few things that make me accept the change in seasons are pretty simple: Halloween, getting out my favorite pairs of boots, and bold lipsticks.
As I now have mostly everything unpacked, I thought that I’d break out the shades I’m most looking forward to wearing the next couple of months!
First up are the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Blackberry Sorbet and the Ulta Matte Lip Cream in Striking (also both featured in my Beauty Store Brand Showdown post). They wear amazingly, specifically the Sephora one as I always need to use makeup remover to get the last specs of it off. Easy to apply with both formulas being super creamy before they set into being matte. I didn’t experience any cracking with either throughout the day, nor did they flake on me. Great options for a matte newbie or if you’re looking for a low maintenance bold lip.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen will always have a special place in my heart. Especially since I went to store after store after store trying to find it in stock so that I could actually swatch test it. I eventually gave up and just ordered it online not knowing how it would really show up on my skin. I love how versatile the color is. You can do a light layer of it like I have it in the swatch above, or slather it on so that it’s that nice dark pigmented color. Though I have found when I go more vampy with it, that it’ll flake a bit more after a few hours of wear. But bottom line, there is a reason this color and formula is a blogger favorite.
My favorite special occasion lip in my collection: The Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Black Metal Dahlia. Seriously it is the most pretty purpley-red sparkling color you will ever put on your lips. As far as staying power goes, I wore this out last New Years Eve and only had to reapply it once. Hands down it has the best staying power of anything I own that isn’t a matte finish. Plus it comes with the mini lip brush, which quickly became another favorite. Both pretty much have me perma-heart-eyed-emoji.
This one isn’t really a berry, it’s more of a brick red with a green sheen to it. Though because of the unique coloring and the fact that it looks like a Fall color epitomized, I thought I’d include it anyway. This specific Espionage Cosmetics Lip Serum was a special edition for last year’s ECCC, but they offer a really cool create your own color kit that allows you to come up with some amazingly pigmented or sheer looks. You pick out a lip serum base, and a pigment (which you can also use as an eyeshadow to boot) and mix as needed. Their Lip Serums are amazing – hydrating, not sticky in the slightest, doesn’t smudge all over your face, and depending on the pigment it leaves a nice little stain once the serum has sunk in. If you check out the Custom Lippie Color Kit, I highly recommend starting with the Cold Blooded Killer Lip Serum Base with either Epic or Clairvoyant pigments.
