Our mailman’s name is Dave, and he has been our mail guy since before I started going to school as a little kid. I’m just going to say it: Dave gets held in higher regard than Santa in our household. We make him either trail mix or banana bread every year around Christmas (as opposed to leaving out milk and cookies). He is the shit. So a huge thank you and shout out to Dave, during this holiday season, where I partake in an inordinate amount of online shopping. Thereby forcing him to get out of his warm mail truck and trek to our front door in the pouring rain – all of the time. You da real MVP.
If I was feeling a little underwhelmed with my Sample Society box last month, this month knocked it out of the park.
➥ Butter London LIPPY Tinted Balm in Teddy Boy
➥ Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in Nude Radiance
➥ Crabtree & Evelyn Verbena And Lavender Hand Therapy
➥ RGB Cosmetics Nail Lacquer in Oxblood
➥ Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Gel
I don’t think there is a Butter London product I’ve tried that I don’t like. The LIPPY Tinted Balm is no exception. The color is pretty opaque for being labeled a balm and not a lipstick, that being said, the staying power is not great. The finish is probably more of a creamy satin than most balms though, which is always nicer than it feeling tacky. Teddy Boy is a dusty rose color with warmer undertones, and really seems to complement my skintone. After swatching it originally, I wondered what it’d look like if you just rubbed it in, which makes me think it might be able to work as a cream blush in a pinch too.
The Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base has been working really nicely as a creamy highlighter for me (do not apply this all over your face, I repeat, do not apply this all over your face – you will regret it). It isn’t sparkly or glittery, it is just a nice sheen that reflects light perfectly. I also really like that it’s more pink toned as opposed to champagne/gold tones that seem to be more prominent in products like this. Its super blendable and doesn’t mess up your base (looking at you Temptu).
I’ve actually used the Crabtree & Evelyn hand-therapy before and love it, so I was excited to get another one to throw in my bag. It smells heavenly, doesn’t feel greasy or slimy after slathering some on, absorbs quickly, and is actually moisturizing. All around win.
The Oxblood shade of the RGB nail lacquer is absolutely stunning. I took the obligatory snap of my just opened box, and then immediately sat down and did my nails. I paired it with my NailKale base coat from Nails Inc, and a Seche Vite top coat, days later I still have zero chips. Knock on wood (amirite?!). Anytime I can get to the point where nail grow out comprises more surface area than chipped sections I am a happy camper. #ToughOnMyNails
I was a little annoyed to be getting ANOTHER eye cream as I currently have four others that I am desperately trying to make my way through. Especially so since it is one I’ve used before. That being said, I had forgotten how much I loved the Esteé Lauder Night Repair Eye Gel. It just absorbs so nicely compared to the others, probably since it’s a gel and not a cream. The texture is light, and it doesn’t feel greasy when applied. When I wake up my under eye area is soft and smooth even though I: A) didn’t get enough sleep & B) the sleep I did get was restless and not good. Considering there are so many people coming home this Holiday season, I probably won’t get any sleep until January, and having exorbitant amounts of eye cream on hand will probably turn from a bane into a boon…
