2015 was definitely the year that I started to embrace a more dewy look. Even well into the contouring trend, I still tended to favor using a slightly too light concealer in lieu of something that reflected light. It’s safe to say that now I’ve essentially jumped on the bandwagon. So here’s to my favorite highlighters from this past year.
Just as I had been dubious of the highlighting trend, I have been just as much so post-conversion about cream highlighters over powder. Then I discovered the Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight in my Sephora Favorites Superstars box. Sephora didn’t lie. It is a superstar. It goes on so perfectly sheer, blends out like a dream, and isn’t overly – well, highlightery for lack of better verbiage? Not gonna lie, this is my lazy day highlighter for when I want to look more put together than I feel.
Undoubtedly, the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow is the product that kick started my daily highlighter habit. The packaging is what initially drew me in. I’d been internet stocking it for months via other bloggers, but seeing it in person was a whole other story. This is by far my favorite “contour” kit. The bronzer isn’t too muddy or orange. The highlighter has a gorgeous texture that allows you to build and blend. Also pretty sure that this golden undertone looks glam on everyone. Plus, let’s be real, I pair this with my Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Rose Gold as a blush all the time and reflect so much light that I could be considered a mirror. Glow get ’em.
I resisted the love for The Balm‘s Mary-Lou Manizer for so long. Then Brooke surprised me with this amazing Manizer Sisters palette. There is not much more I can say that hasn’t been said. I concede that for me, it seems to live up to the blogger hype.
Last, but certainly not least, Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Golden Nude. My favorite thing about this powder is that it comes in a bunch of different highlighter colors so that you can choose a really subtle sheen for your skin tone. Out of the four, this one applies the most sheer at first swipe and looks so natural. I mean you can really build it up too – as clearly evidenced by the swatch below. Though, if I’m going for something a little less obvious, this is my go-to.
Swatches (and Shop this post): Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight, Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow, The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer, Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder.
