With Fall encroaching, the talk of getting the newest berry colored lippies, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and scarves, seems to be all over the blogosphere. While I’m sure I’ll have plenty to contribute to those topics over the next few weeks, I wanted to take a step back and show some love to the classic (and seasonless) nude lip. So here are my Top 5 ‘My Lips But Better’ lipsticks, plus a bonus.
I’m starting off with the lipstick that started my nude lipstick collection: Bite Beauty Luminous Cream. First off, IT SMELLS LIKE VANILLA. I hate to say that this is my favorite feature of it, but it’s the little things that really make an impact. Beyond that, good coverage, decent staying power, doesn’t tug on application. Just a good solid go-to.
Never let it be said that I didn’t find at least a few wonderful products from subscribing to Ipsy while I did. The City Color Lip Balm was sent in one of my last bags and I remember being so surprised how pigmented it was for being labeled a balm. It has a great finish to it that’s sheeny and hydrating. However, the color doesn’t last as long. So note that you should keep it within reach for reapplying throughout the day.
My favorite thing about the NARS Audacious Lipsticks is the sheer amount of pigment packed into each swipe. Plus the formula is incredibly creamy. The packaging is also so sleek looking, and the magnetic closure makes it feel really sturdy. Right now, it’s looks a little funky with my summer skin, but once my face goes back to the normal winter pallor I’ll def be reaching for it a bit more.
Sometimes the bonus is included at the end, sometimes you forget about what order you want to write about things when you take the pictures. So, it gets placed in the middle of the composition. I decided to have the L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire as my extra because I very rarely use it on its own, but frequently add it on top of the others for a little bit of extra moisture. The great thing about the range in general and Nude Ballet in specific, is that it’s buildable. You can do a really thin layer for something sheer, or pack it on so it’s a bit more noticeable. It makes some great color combinations with whatever base shade you start with.
I picked up this Soap & Glory lipstick while I was in London last March. It makes me wish that the brand’s makeup was available stateside because it is essentially the bomb dot com. There’s a reason that the selection in Boots looked like looted stores out of a Walking Dead scene – it’s just that good, especially for the price. You can bet that the next time I’m across the pond I’m coming home with more than just one of these.
Saving the best for last: Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution in Bond Girl. I love absolutely everything about this lippie. From the utter gorgeous bullet it’s encased in, the perfect non-drying matte finish, how easily it applies + it’s staying power. I don’t think there’s a thing about it that I dislike. I feel like a Bond Girl myself when I don this shade – you know except for the fact that I’m not as chic, don’t have nefarious contacts plotting schemes of world domination, and refuse to get my hair wet if at all possible (looking at you cliche emerging from the ocean/pool scenes).
