It’s been a while since I’ve received a Birchbox that I’ve felt this divided on. There were definitely some products that I was, less than thrilled, with. Some that I ended up being over the moon about. All around solid box though when you averaged it out.
This is probably the third or fourth can of the Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray that I’ve been sent in a subscription beauty box, so while I don’t mind having another one on hand, it’s the back up of the back up. I don’t like it as much as a setting spray as using it as a refreshing mist – especially on those hot days. I do like it much better than the Evian version for what it’s worth too.
I would label this a disappointing product, but I had zero expectations to start with it being a gloss. Apparently the Manna Kadar Cosmetics Lip Locked (in Lucky) is a multi-tasking primer/stain/gloss. It was pretty sticky, didn’t leave much of a stain, and didn’t feel like it did much for my lips. It may work great for others, but it is not for me.
Here’s where it gets good though, my product choice for the month was the Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara and it was far from disappointing. Huge? Yes. The formula was incredibly volumizing and really thickened up my lashes. Extreme? Possibly. It held a curl well, but I’ve naturally pretty curly lashes so I’m not the best indicator of that function. The formula itself wasn’t too wet nor did it flake on me throughout the day, even when I built up a couple coats for length. The brush was a big hit for me too – great at getting into the nooks of your eyelashes, separating them perfectly. I’m planning on getting the full-size eventually.
And here’s where it gets even better, I finally got to try out the cult classic Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. OH MAN. SO. GOOD. There’s not much praise I can give it that it hasn’t already been given. Just enough texture to add volume without weighing my hair down or feeling filmy. Such want.
I’m a big fan of sheet masks in general, and the BioRepublic Cucumber Breeze Soothing Mask is a pretty run of the mill choice. I’ve gravitated more towards hydrogel masks lately since they don’t slip off of my skin as much, therefore I can be a bit more active during my face pamper session. But, I still use the regular cotton/fiber sheet ones pretty regularly too. Price-point wise they’re pretty wallet friendly and a great way to drown your skin in nutrients for a bit. All around it’d make a great starting point if you haven’t gotten into the Korean Skincare Craze yet.
