In my last post, I mentioned that I was moving to LA. Well, yesterday my dad and I made the 16-hour drive, with all of my non-furniture belongings crammed into my little Prius. Basically, we sang along to a lot of songs from the 70s and he listened to a bunch of my podcasts – such a sport. Today will note braving the crazy weekend crowds of Costco and Ikea to pick out some new pieces for the new room. Wish us luck, it’ll be intense to say the least. But until everyone else wakes up, I have some time to finally knock this post out.
I originally wanted to post this recap of my mini-vacation last Sunday, but I think I overestimated how much time I would have to do last-minute get-togethers with friends, and you know actually pack. So blogging took to the back seat just for a little bit for me to wade through all of the to-dos.
My family has always valued traveling, I realize how lucky I have been to be exposed to so many different places growing up. Some people save up for the newest car or TV, we saved for airfare. That being said, we usually drove to Palm Springs and would spend like three weeks there in the summer… Good for me that I love 110F at 10% humidity. Sitting by the pool with a good book and a cocktail (not to mention lots of SPF)? My happy place next to Sephora.
Speaking of books, it only took me a day and a half to read through Kristin Hannah‘s The Nightingale. I don’t want to drop any spoilers, based in France during WWII it’s about two very different sisters and how they deal with the strains of war. It was really hard to put it down. Even though most of the time was spent poolside with some much needed relax time, we did make it out to a really cool exhibit at the Palm Springs Art Museum: Killer Heels The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe. There were a bunch of cool concept pieces by Louboutin, Vivier, Ferragamo, etc. Really amazing pieces from a multitude of designers.
This will probably end up being a funny anecdote to me only because of childhood context. I was there checking out the exhibit with my mom and our family friend – who I apparently used to beat in these kind of memory games all of the time when I was little. So when I saw this game I had to point it out and ask her if she wanted to play it with me. Smiles all around.
Then there’s these guys. I nearly peed myself when I turned around. Yep, just another fixture in the modern art section. Apparently people talk to them all the time.
It was really nice to get some quality time with my family before moving so far away from them. Ironically I will now live really close to Palm Springs – which means I at least get to see my Auntie who lives there a lot more.
It’s just one of those places filled with happy memories – like my Nana Cleo teaching me to swim underwater, or learning to play pinochle, and staying up all night reading the newly released Harry Potter books… What places do you guys like traveling to – or would like to go to?
