Seasons in Portland are strange, in fact, I wouldn’t say we even have seasons so much as three helpings of Fall, and then August. While the onset of Autumn means crunchy leaves, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and scarf/boots weather… I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer yet. I would love another month or so of sunshine and sandals. Actually, I should probably just move to the desert. But that’s another post entirely, back to my favorites from this past month…
Though I completely adore the Urban Decay Naked Palettes, they are a little bit cumbersome to cart around. Enter the Smashbox Full Exposure Travel Palette (at Sephora here). It’s pretty much the perfect size to live in the small makeup bag that lives in my work tote/purse. The top four shades are shimmery/glittery, but not overly so and I have yet to experience fall out. Though not quite as pigmented as the matte shades, they are very buildable. All of them are super blendable, and I’ve been loving the lighter shades as a highlighter on my inner eyes.
Because swatches are pretty much a necessity. The bottom three on the right are pretty much my favorite, insert heart-eyed emoji.
I won’t write too much on the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction lipstick, since I just wrote about it here. Though I will say that I wore this lipstick for a good four days in a row last week, and I’m assuming that will only happen more now that days are getting darker.
I actually ordered this online from Amazon before Target started caring the Laneige line in their stores (which I am ecstatic about by the way!), so this is almost heading to my pile of empties. Not sure about you guys, but my skin FREAKS OUT when there is a change in the weather. It’s getting dry and flakey and that means more hydrating masks and sleeping packs. Prior to scoping out R/Skincareaddiction on reddit, I had no idea what a sleeping pack was (FYI a sleeping pack is just a face mask you wear while you are sleeping). The treasure trove of information there led me to the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack (at Target here). A couple nights a week this gets applied over my night cream, and it really seems to help lock in the moisture. It also smells really nice and has a light texture for a gel. And unlike some other gel creams I’ve used, it actually absorbs really nicely and doesn’t just sit on top of your skin.
Alex is actually the one who turned me onto this glue, prior to this I had just been using whatever small tube came in the pack. I am a Duo Eyelash Adhesive (at Sephora here) convert. The black one is super handy if you suck at knowing how long you have to wait for the glue to be goopy enough… Which was always a problem with the clear adhesive for me. It has crazy staying power too. The other week I put some falsies on in the morning and they stayed put all day at work, through happy hour with the best friends, plus drunk hot tubbing. If that isn’t a testament to a product, than I am not sure what is.
Though I love love love using facial oils, but I never seem to have the knack for using oils in my hair. I either apply too little for it to have any tangible benefits, or I apply too much and it makes me feel like I was attacked by Greasers from the ’50s but without the cool leather jackets. Which is why I have been adoring the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Oil (at Ulta here). I usually just work a dime sized amount through my dry hair at night as a boost, by morning it’s absorbed nicely and my hair feels more smooth. Then in the morning I use it as either a heat protectant, or to boost my curls depending on which look I’m rocking for the week.
I’ll admit, I didn’t like this mascara right out of the gate. The formula was just a little to wet for it to be buildable when I first opened it. After coming back to it after a few weeks (after it dried out a bit), it was pretty much perfect. I never expected mascara to smell good – but it has a really nice light fragrance to it. It also is crazy waterproof – like lasting through me learning to wake board waterproof. And let’s be honest, I spent WAYYYY more time crashing into the water than I did upright on the board. My eyeliner was completely gone, but I’ll be damned if my lashes weren’t as luscious as when we left the marina. I’m not sure if this is my new HG mascara, but the Guerlain Waterproof Maxi-Lash (at Sephora here) is definitely up there. I mean come on, just how luxe does that packaging look.
I never knew how excited I would get when someone tells me my brows are on point, but it’s becoming one of my favorite complements. Which brings me to Anastasia Dipbrow in blonde (at Sephora here). A little of this product goes a long way, which is why after nearly three months of daily use, I have hardly even made a dent in it. The little combo spoolie brush I have is actually from a Sephora collection brow kit, which I pretty much just bought for the brush and then immediately threw out the arch stencils… but I have no shame. But yeah, if I only have time to throw on three products before I leave the house, it’s pretty much this, moisturizer, and mascara.
