While I’ve been obsessed with all things makeup and beauty since before I can remember, I’ve apparently been living under a rock. I had NO idea that The Body Shop had such a wide range of makeup, I just kind of assumed they were purely body butters and lotions and all things to do with body – not face. My bad.
Then I started reading more posts from beauty bloggers in the UK. EmTalks and A Model Recommends are some of my favorite BBloggers as of late, and when they both had great things to say about InstaBlur, I had to check it out. Unfortunately there was something off with the American batch, so it wasn’t availble for a few weeks while I enviously watched everyone across the pond loving it.
Finally, after checking the Body Shop online almost every day, it finally became in stock! Being a makeup addict, I of course added in a few other goodies: The BB Cream in 01, and the Baked-To-Last Blush in 02. Then impatiently waited. I’ll admit, some of the best sights in the world are seeing the postman come up to the door with a parcel, or the UPS truck stopped in front of your house. Seriously, it makes me happier than my birthday.
I just now realized that I should have also dabbed a bit of the BB cream under the dollop of InstaBlur to show what it looks like before you rub it in and it color matches your skin, but totally spaced. I’ll post a photo of it on Instagram later. However, I LOVE the consistency of the InstaBlur! It kind of reminds me of a more whipped (fluffier?) version of the Smashbox Photo Finish primer, or it’s dupe the NYX Photo-Loving Primer that I’ve been using a lot lately. It goes on very smoothly and creates a very nice base for whatever foundation/BB/CC/ZZ cream you use.
I may or may not have torn into the package like a mad woman, and then proceeded to play around with my new makeup for a few hours… I tested the BB cream with other primers, and then no primer. As you can see (or rather, can’t), with the InstaBlur the BB Cream blends to my skin tone soooo much better and just looks smoother overall. That’s probably because I have rather dry skin and the color modules seem to stick to any dry patches I have on my face and apparently my hand too… The moral of that being: primers, they’re great, I love them. I did notice that when I used my NYX primer or Hourglass Primer Serum, both of which have a silkier and less thick formula than the InstaBlur, when I massaged in the BB Cream I would get some pilling – glad I was just trying it at home where that didn’t make it out into public. Maybe I just had too much primer applied, who knows, but not the look I was going for.
I’d say the BB Cream is more light-to-medium coverage than some, but it’s a really nice finish for summer and doesn’t feel like it’ll melt off my face by mid-day. I‘m also loving the blush. I haven’t historically been into blush that much as I have such pinky red undertones, and most blushes just seem to accentuate that instead of complimenting it. That is not the case with this one. I did two swatches of the blush, the left one that is actually visible being super heavy handed, and the one on the right being the amount I normally apply. The fact that it’s so bulidable has pretty much sold me, and adding blush (in addition to my normal bronzer/hightligher routine) has pretty much become a morning staple now.
The Body Shop usually has some kind of coupon or other going on, and at the time I got these with a buy two get one free, so it was really rather affordable.
