Lately I’ve been so exhausted that when I get home, I only have enough energy to focus on me. Trying to re-implement six months plus of backend work on a website takes a while. Especially during the holiday season, and even more so when you have a very full work schedule.
I have a pretty extensive skincare (and body care) routine during the work week as it is, but whenever I get the chance I revel in a nice whole body treatment over the weekend. There’s just something about taking a step back from the frenzy and treating yourself.
While I hardly use physical exfoliants on my face, I live for a good coffee or sugar scrub for the rest of my body. The smell and grit of the granules attacking those scaly dry patches that plague me during winter is incredibly gratifying.
One of the scrubs thatI’ve really been enjoying lately has been Scrub Love’s Mint Temptation Scrub*. Not only is it packed with skin loving oils – it smells exactly like Thin Mints. When I feel super extravagant, I’ll wait until I’ve applied a deep conditioner or hair mask in shower and turn off the water (got to conserve that water for California’s perpetual drought).
I’ll work a palmful into each leg and then awkwardly sit in the empty tub for a few minutes while I read a book (or look at Instagram) to let the oils in the scrub work some magic on my skin post exfoliation. The peppermint and tea tree oils provide a nice little tingle and the argan oil feels super moisturizing. I try to hold out as long as I can until turning the water back on to rinse off.
While the oil in the scrub help, I still layer a bit more hydration post shower. I like to mix equal parts body oil and whatever lotion I have on hand and slather it on before throwing on some leggings to make sure it all absorbs. Sometimes I’ll finish off the treatment with a facial while binge watching some Netflix, though regardless it’s nice just to tune out and recharge.
